1. COMMITMENT TO TRUTH & PCI NORM 4 (EQUAL PROMINENCE)
At News Varta Monthly (https://newsvartamonthly.com), our credibility depends on accurate, verifiable reporting. Under PCI Norm 4 of the Press Council of India Norms of Journalistic Conduct, a news publication has a duty to correct factual errors with promptness and equal prominence. When an error occurs, we acknowledge and rectify it transparently.
2. HOW READERS CAN REPORT FACTUAL INACCURACIES
We encourage readers to notify our newsdesk if a published story contains a factual error:
- Dedicated Corrections Email: newsvartawork@gmail.com
- Subject Line Format: "Correction Request: [Headline of Article]"
- Required Information for Expedited Review:
a) Direct URL of the published story;
b) Date of publication;
c) The exact statement, data point, name, or quote believed to be inaccurate;
d) Corroborating evidence, public records, or official documents substantiating the correction;
e) The complainant's name and contact information for follow-up verification.
3. EDITORIAL FACT-CHECKING & RESOLUTION PROCESS
a) Swift Review: Corrections requests are forwarded to the handling reporter and supervising editor for verification against primary documentation.
b) Verification Standard: If a factual inaccuracy is corroborated, the article is updated promptly in our publishing CMS.
c) Target Response Time: We endeavor to acknowledge correction submissions within 48 hours of receipt.
4. ERRATA & TRANSPARENCY NOTICES
a) Substantive Factual Errors: When an error affects the substantive facts of a story (e.g. incorrect names, dates, financial figures, quotes, or timeline of events), we update the text and append an errata notice at the foot of the article stating:
- What was originally published;
- What has been corrected;
- The timestamp of the correction.
b) Minor Typographical Adjustments: Minor spelling, grammatical, or typographical corrections that do not alter the meaning of the report are corrected directly without a formal errata footnote.
c) Major Retractions: In the rare event that a story's primary factual premise is disproven, the article will be formally retracted accompanied by a prominent editorial explanation from the Editor-in-Chief.
5. EQUAL PROMINENCE PRINCIPLE
Corrections are published with prominence commensurate with that of the original report, ensuring readers who read the original error have clear access to the verified facts.
